What the @#%! Happened?!?!

Hi gang!  I was away from LJ for a week due to the kickoff of the Summer Reading Program (more on that later) and when I return, I find there is a mass exodus going down.  So, what happened? I should never leave the room.

My god, it was insane. this (http://catrinella.livejournal.com/151812.html) is the best play-by-play that I know of. But basically LJ decided to delete some sex offenders by suspending everyone with "incest" as an interest. But a lot of fic communities and survivors of incest, and a community reading Lolita, got suspended as well.

Basically it was every fandom, including everyone in the Harry Potter fandom, agreeing with each other and turning against LJ for a time. And now LJ has apologized and reinstated the suspended journals, saying they messed up, but half the people are still crying that they've forever lost their trust and are trying to find a new place to move Fandom. I think it'll cool down, though. (Partially because I don't want Fandom everywhere to leave LJ for good!)

So yeah. LJ handled a situation badly, lost a lot of trust and respect by taking 44 hours to address the users of the site about it, but talking to a couple news sources instead, and even though things are back the way they were, lots of people are unhappy. Strikethrough '07. Deletegate, etc.

What's funny is that you're not the first person on my flist to be like "OKAY, I TOOK A WEEK HIATUS AND EVERYTHING'S GONE MAD!!!" You guys picked the wrong week to sign off! ;)

Thanks for the link. Sadly, last week was so bad for me (the kickoff of summer reading at the library and the library A/C going out for 2 days straight) that I think would have preferred to deal with the LJ shitstorm.

I think you are right about everyone settling down and getting back to Fandom. It is kind of nice to see people working together for a common cause for once. Not that it will last long.
