I Can't Believe I Just Did This

I'm a little incoherent right now but I had to post this. I just helped foil a robbery at the library. 

I was sitting at the front desk explaining to a clueless patron how maps work (I kid you not!) when a teen/adult male approached the desk. He looked me in the eye and then grabbed the Kid's Craft Donation Jar right off the counter and ran for it. I didn't hesitate, I yelled at him and took off after him. I was close on his heels as we exited the library and I knew where he was headed. He made his way to the back of the library building. I was about 4 feet behind him. By this time, some library patrons were also in pursuit. He jumped a neighborhood fence just about the time I reached him. Luckily, one of the patrons used to be in law enforcement and he jumped the fence along with another man and caught the little bastard. 

My heart is still beating fast. This is the second time we have been robbed but the first time in broad daylight while we were open. I probably shouldn't have chased the guy but my instincts just kicked in.

Oh wow! You're a hero! That's incredible. My instincts would probably be along the lines of acting offended but otherwise terrified of the situation, so good for you for actually running after the little punk!

It's just so incredibly low of someone to steal from a library. Especially donations for kids.

Thanks! I think the only reason that I chased him was because it made me so angry that someone would steal money intended for our children's craft program. It's not like we are rolling in dough. The county doesn't even fund our storytimes. All that money comes from donations.
