In an effort to get my Dad's mind of the storm, I asked him about the 1900 storm. My maternal great great grandfather survived the 1900 storm in Galveston. When the storm arrived, John Keis looked out the window of his Victorian style home and saw his neighbor's house breaking apart. He grabbed some tools and ran across the street to help them. One of his grandsons accompanied him. Just a little kid tagging along with his grandfather. The wind was so strong that they could hardly stand and John realized that they were in danger. He tied himself and his grandson to a palm tree just in time to see his house wash away.
