Nov. 4th, 2004 11:21 pmOne of the topics of conversation around my house today was where we should tell people we live. After the last election, I attended Artfest in Washington state with my sister. Every time someone asked where we were from and we told them Texas, we got THE EYEROLL. I finally began answering, "Texas, but I didn't vote for him!". I can't imagine the reaction I'll get now.
Texas was once a proud Democratic state. We are the home of Ann Richards, Molly Ivans, Jim Hightower, and many other proud, active, liberal Texans. I don't know how the tide turned toward the GOP (I have a wild theory involving the oil boom of the late 1970's and how the cities up North used it as an excuse to get rid of their jackass GOP constituents), but we are working hard to turn it back.
So the next time someone asks me where I am from, I will resist the urge to say Seattle or San Francisco.
